2018 Montreal Pride: What To Expect
Pride – August is pride month in Montreal and here is everything you need know. The city will be dedicating a full month to those in the LGBTQ+ community and their allies. Throughout the month of August, Montreal Pride will be organising many different pride themed events, as well as the official Pride Parade of course. Usually pride month is during the month of June, but Montreal has always been a bit different and decided to do it in August. The celebrations will officially start on August 9th 2018 until August 19th 2018.
Some of the events throughout August include motivational speakers, conferences on LGBTQ+ related content, tours of the Village in Downtown Montreal, dance parties, a “literary pride”, concerts and much more to look forward to. Some of these events are FREE of charge but not all of them, so make sure to check out the official program on their website to be sure. The Pride Parade will take place on Sunday August 19th 2018 between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm. It will be a 2.7 km parade which will symbolically link the old and the new as it departs from the former west end LGBTQ+ sector to arrive at the very heart of the new Village. Following its traditional route along René-Lévesque boulevard, the parade will begin at Metcalfe Street, to end on Alexandre-DeSève Street. Before the parade on the previous day, there will be a Community Day with kiosks on Sainte-Catherine Est street (between Saint-Hubert and Papineau). This festive day allows members of both the LGBTQ and mainstream communities to discover the many exciting organizations, community groups, businesses and sports teams, run by and/or catering to the LGBTQ+ community. This event has as a mandate to involve, educate and entertain.
