Metropolis gets facelift and NEW name
Metropolis – The venerable Montreal concert and entertainment venue Metropolis Gets facelft, located at 59 St. Catherine Street East, has just been spruced up with some new cosmetic changes and a new name. It’s now called “MTelus”, and is a venture between Equipe Spectra and cell phone carrier Telus.
Last Tuesday night (September 12), a special opening night took place to formally launch the MTelus venue. Besides a new electronic marquee, it also features a sharp, well-lit bar on its street level (near the box office), so that spectators can enjoy a pre-show drink in a comfortable atmosphere. The main concert stage has also underwent a sprucing up, with new carpets and a more polished look. To formally launch MTelus, the guests were treated to a double bill concert featuring Nova Scotia rappers Radio Radio, along with A Tribe Called Red. There was also continuous music before and in between shows courtesy of DJ K.O.K.A., Marieme & DI Astronauts with Sabrina Sabotage DJ. Personally speaking, I look forward to returning to Metropolis under its new name and look next summer for more jazz fest and Just For Laughs shows (and according to one JFL official who happened to be present at the launch, they will be back to fill that venue with their massively popular Club Series shows).
