At 22-years-old not many people can say they’ve sang, acted and modeled but this young woman can. Trudy Simoneau, a model represented by Folio Agency, a Jazz singer and aspiring actress has been strutting her stuff on the cat walk since she was 15-years-old.
“My biggest dream is to become a singer,” Simoneau confesses. “Modeling is more of my day job,” she laughs. Many can agree that isn’t a bad day job after all.
Every year Trudy walks the runway for Sensation Mode’s Festival Mode Design. A festival that celebrates creativity and culture through a big outdoor event in downtown Montreal. Well-known Canadian designers, retailers and international fashion icons will share their work on the big stage from August 18 – August 23.
Trudy’s walked for Guess, Forever 21, Antoine Laoune among other famous brands. “It’s a huge get together for all the models. You never get to see all the models in the city so it’s a great opportunity,” she explains.
The fashion world is often misunderstood in the city, with the thought that there is no work for aspiring models but Trudy disagrees. She’s been working for designers and brands since she started at Folio and explains that E-commerce changes the job and makes it easier to find work. “I get a lot of commercial gigs and it pays a lot more than editorial here in the city. Websites like Beyond the Rack are always looking for models and that’s great but it’s also less creative,” she explains.
When asked how she would describe her personal style or inspiration her response isn’t surprising. Having met her in a coffee shop with her hair pulled back and wearing the simplest sun dress it’s no shock that classic icons like Audrey Hepburn and Olivia Palermo inspire her daily. “Simple, classic and elegant,” she describes.
Having done the modeling gig for almost 10 years now, Trudy has developed a great clientele and connection with top brands like Le Garage, Beyond the Rack, Point Zero and Sport Experts.
But, her true passion? Music. Singing is what drives this young femme fatale. At just 7-months-old she started humming along songs her mother used to play. The second she began talking, singing was second nature. She studied Jazz at Cegep St-Laurent and is a seasoned Jazz/Blues singer.
Trudy was part of a disco-revival group called Discothèque – a band produced by Moonsun Musik for which she belted out oldies alongside some very talented singers and musicians. From that opportunity came another as all good things do. Following her stint with Discothèque she signed a one year development deal with Warner Canada where she produced an EP and created a team.
Now, Trudy is in talks to work directly with Warner USA and build a career with the American company. Her biggest musical influences are powerhouses Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday and Amy Winehouse.
In the meantime, she’ll be working her magic in front of the camera and on the runway. We wish you all the best Trudy!
