#LesCanadiennes win two against Toronto and raise money for breast cancer
This past weekend Les Canadiennes packed the Bell Sports Complexe in Brossard with two straight wins over the Toronto Furies. Marie-Philip Poulin scored both game winning goals with forward Karell Emard putting one past Toronto’s goaltender Christina Kessler during Saturday’s 2-0 win. On Sunday Ann-Sophie Bettez scored in the first period, paving the way for Poulin’s overtime goal and a 2-1 win.
Right after the game on Saturday Les Canadiennes also held their seventh annual ‘Pink in the Rink’ game, broadcast live nationally on Sportsnet. Prior to the game, the team honoured ‘Seincr’eau’, a Dragon Boat Team comprised entirely of breast cancer survivors. During the game, fans lined up to bid on exclusive items in a silent auction. A portion of proceeds from the game and the auctions will be donated to the Wellness Initiative of the Cedars Breast Clinic at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). This year’s edition has already raised $14,500, exceeding last year’s total with more still to come as bidding remained open for a select few items in the online auction.
Sunday was also ‘Fan Appreciation Day’ and Ann-Sophie Bettez showed fans she had some talent off the ice as well when she sang the national anthem. She shoots… and she sings!
Eight members of Les Canadiennes will head to Toronto next weekend to take part in the CWHL All-Star Game, which will take place on Saturday, Feb. 11 at the Air Canada Centre. The team will return to action on Feb. 18-19, when it visits the Calgary Inferno.
