Montreal Canadiens Weekly Report Card: Week 9 – Ole, Ole, Ole!

First off, I haven’t done a weekly report on the Montreal Canadiens’ due to taking some time off from the world of social media. As many of you know I was previously doing a lot of social media work for the only English radio sports network in the city and my time there officially in October and it was fitting for me to step away for a month. So, now thats out of the way, perhaps it was fitting for me to step away. Simply put, the Habs were just awful. (You can read my report on the first 25 games of the Canadiens by clicking here).

So, lets get on to the weekly report card of the Montreal Canadiens, week 9: Ole, Ole, Ole!

The Canadiens played 4 games this week and won all four. They outscored their opponents 21 to 6 and 16 of those goals coming from back to back wins against the Detroit Redwings. Since the return of Carey Price the Canadiens game has improved drastically.

Here are some key points from the week:

The Positives:

+ Habs winning streak is at 5 games

+ Carey Price made 114 saves and only allowed 5 goals against, getting him NHL 2nd star of the week. Price went 4-0-0 with a 1.50 goals-against average and .950 save percentage
+ Jeff Petry stepped up when Webber was out of the line-up
+ Galchenyuk, Gallagher, Pacioretty are getting their offensive groove back
+ Team chemistry is mixing up well

+ Paul Byron with his 1st career hatrick and all of them were some sweet goals.
+ Gallagher being named player of the month for November and getting his 100th goal of the season. This guy is on pace for a career year

The Negatives:

The powerplay continues to struggle
Daniel Carr being sent down to Laval

The Grade:
It was nice to enjoy a Saturday night hockey game in Montreal. It really has been a long time since you felt some positivity heading home after a game at the Bell Centre. However, the Canadiens did play an awful looking Detroit team in a very week Atlantic division. The Habs will definitely need their A game this week as they play 3 western conference teams including the the mighty St. Louis Blues tomorrow. Again, as I wrote last week (the Canadiens…. after 25 games), have a crucial home stand ahead and by December 14th we will see where this team is heading.

A – It was an Ole ole ole of a week for the Canadiens and for now are back in the playoff mix.

(Note: As the weeks go on, these Habs weekly report cards will improve as well)
