Bright 2014 ahead for Youth and Social Mentors
Teachers, counsellors and school administrators form part of the bedrock of our children’s experiences, but they are often plagued by limited time and resources in being able to provide our children with the very best education possible. With this in mind, Sun Youth’s Youth and Social Mentors are there to help. Part of the “Bullying, Taxing and Conflict Resolution” program, Sun Youth’s mentors help students grow through activities including sports, arts, clubs, and group discussions, which not only have the effect of reducing or eliminating bullying, taxing and intimidation in the academic environment, but have led students to take on more direction, control and focus in overcoming the personal or academic challenges they may face. This transformative program is always in need of more resources, both to expand its operation in schools it currently serves as well as to reach out to new schools. When Coordinator Nadia Masella was approached by Lia Bragaglia of Objectif Lune, a business software company looking to raise funds for the program, she knew what kind of difference their contribution could make. They started by essentially preparing and selling meals to one another, with the company matching the final donation. “The fundraiser ended before the holidays and they ultimately raised a total of $2057.40!” says Nadia Masella. “The results were unveiled at an event celebrating this exceptional contribution, in the presence of The Beat 92,5’s Claudia Marquez, firm believer in our program. This is not simply a great charitable contribution by Objectif Lune, but an investment in our future!”
