A first in the West Island: a Social Development Action Plan for the Southern West Island communities
On October 20, 2016, the citizens of our region are cordially invited to attend a presentation by the members of the Table de Quartier Sud de l’Ouest de l’Île (TQSOI) of their five-year Social Development Action Plan. The event will be held from 5 to 7 pm at the Arthur-Séguin chalet, 365 avenue Saint-Louis à Pointe-Claire, QC H9R 2A1.
This Social Development Action Plan is focussing on five priorities chosen to improve the quality of life in the community, these are the Transportation, Food Security, Affordable Housing, Health and Social Services, Poverty and Social Exclusion.
More information on the five major priorities being addressed in the plan:
Transportation: public transportation is difficult in the West Island, whether it’s access or a lack of service coordination between municipalities. Selected actions will address the need for an improved and integrated network of public and active transportation.
Food Security: The region does not provide easy access to fresh fruits and vegetables in a walking distance, especially for low income families. Innovative approaches will be presented to alleviate this burden.
Affordable Housing: Affordable housing for a vulnerable population is very limited and the cost of renting is too high in the West Island. Social housing is almost non-existing. A vision promoting affordable housing has been developed and integrated in the action plan.
Health and Social Services: There is a serious shortage of health professionals in the area. Only 58. 5 % /100, 000 residents have a family doctor when the ratio is Montreal is 85 % /100, 000. There is a lack of medical clinics and specialists. A better coordination of services needs to be offered.
Poverty and Social Exclusion: There is poverty in the West Island, even though our region is one of the richest in the province. Seniors, people with disabilities and single-parent families suffer the consequences. Actions will be recommended in raising awareness of the existence of this hidden reality.
These topics are of a fundamental importance for the future of our community, your feedback is therefore necessary to help influence the decisions that will impact this community. To register, please contact us at 438-938-7764 email@example.com
