West Island Palliative Care Residence 2017 Golf Tournament raises a record amount
West Island Palliative Care Residence 2017 Golf Tournament – The 7th Annual Golf Tournament of the West Island Palliative Care Residence, which was held on August 28, 2017 at the prestigious Royal Montreal Golf Club, generated net profits of $315,000 for the Residence.
As Teresa Dellar, Executive Director and Co-Founder of the West Island Palliative Care Residence said following the announcement of the results: “There truly is no greater gift than assuring someone’s care as they are dying. Our patients are dying surrounded by love, compassion, with dignity and with their family and friends because of your support. Everyone should have the right to die with superior palliative care in their community. Your participation in this golf tournament, is precious and priceless.”
The Residence receives one-third of its operational budget from the Quebec government and relies on community support and fundraising activities to raise the balance of more than 3.5 million dollars. The community plays a crucial role in contributing the financial resources that allows the Residence to provide its care and services to all our patients free of charge.
Major sponsors of the event included: RBC, Quinn Sport Management, Banque Nationale, Geoff Molson on behalf of the Club de hockey Canadien, a friend of the Residence, Jockey Canada, Danny and Diane Bossy, Cobra Puma Golf Canada and BMW West Island.
Political leaders attending the golf tournament were: Geoff Kelley, MNA for Jacques-Cartier and Minister Responsible for Native Affairs who gave a beautiful testimonial about his personnal experience at the Residence; Francis Scarpaleggia, Member of Parliament for the riding of Lac-Saint-Louis as well as West Island municipal leaders such as: Michel Gibson, mayor of Kirkland and Georges Bourelle, mayor of Beaconsfield.
Special guests attending were: Otis Grant – Former WBO Middle Weight Champion of the World and Executive Director of the Otis Grant & Friends Foundation; Alvin Powell – Former Miami Dolfin and Seattle Sea Hawk NFL offensive lineman; Bob Gainey – Former Executive Vice President and General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens and currently a team consultant for the St. Louis Blues. Gainey was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1992 and during the All Star weekend in January 2017, Gainey was named one of the ‘100 Greatest NHL Players’ in history. MC for the night was Andrew Carter – the voice of CJAD’s Morning Show and a close friend of the West Island Palliative Care Residence.
