Sun Youth needs new home ASAP
Sun Youth needs new home – The news came out yesterday that Sun Youth needs new home ASAP, the Commission Scolaire de Montréal (CSDM) having voted to take back the building it has been leasing to the community organization since 1981. While Sun Youth is disappointed it could not reach an agreement with the CSDM, the organization is looking ahead and, come January, will be working with its partners to find new headquarters which will correspond to its many needs and allow it to continue to provide the many services people depend on. Sun Youth obviously wishes to stay in the neighbourhood that saw it grow from its 1954 infant beginnings. For now, Sun Youth is concentrating on its Christmas Basket distribution, hoping to bring comfort and Holiday cheer to Montreal families in need.
Thus, on Friday December 22nd, the Christmas Basket distribution continues at Sun Youth. As usual the organization will be able to count on the support of volunteers from groups with which it collaborates year-round. Among those will be the good folks from the Montreal Gazette (9 am to 12 pm) to help distribute perishable and non perishable food, new toys, hygiene products and a few surprises. By December 23rd, some 5000 families will have benefitted from this distribution, with as many new toys donated to children 12 years and under.
Additionally, volunteers will once again be present to make home deliveries of the food hampers for those who might have difficulty carrying them home. We would like to thank Enterprise for lending us two vehicles to help with basket deliveries.
While being on the giving end, Sun Youth also has the chance to be on the receiving end. The organization wishes to thank les Producteurs de lait du Québec for donating 15,000 litres of milk once again this year. Sun Youth also thanks the many volunteers who took part in the December 7th Media’s Big Food Drive street collect and the public for its outstanding generosity. For those who weren’t able to participate, it’s not too late to give. Friends of the Media’s Big Food Drive, Via Capitale, Jean-Coutu, Provigo and Maxi, are still accepting donations until December 24th. It is also possible to make donations online at guignolee.ca, by telephone through Ticketpro (514 908-9090 or (toll free) at 1 866 908-9090). A $5 donation can also be made by texting NOEL Mtl at 20222.
