Kent Nagano’s Farewell concert – It is with great emotion that the Orchestre symphonique de Montreal (OSM) announces Kent Nagano’s last concert as Music Director of the Orchestra. Featuring Beethoven’s majestic Ninth Symphony, this banner event is offered free of charge on Sunday, August 9,at 8 pm, on the Esplanade of the Olympic Park, as the closing concert of the ninth edition of the OSM’s Classical Spree.
A 1500-voice Ode to Joy will intone a final farewell between Maestro Kent Nagano and the OSM after 16 years of collaboration. Additionally, the OSM invites all Quebec choirs of 15 members or more the opportunity to take part in this historic event.* The August 9 concert will feature four renowned Canadian soloists, to be announced at the launch of the Classical Spree in May.
Beethoven’s Ninth was a natural choice, considering Maestro Nagano’s contribution to the evolution and reputation of the OSM through his emphasis on the Germanic repertoire. Not incidentally, the same monumental work marked his very first concert as OSM Music Director in 2006, and the inaugural concert of the Maison symphonique in 2011.
We are honoured and touched to welcome the Orchestre symphonique de Montreal and Maestro Nagano to our Esplanade for the last time. This event, which brings together several thousand people every year, is an opportunity to offer Montrealers a free classical music concert by one of the greatest conductors of our time. – Michel Labrecque, CEO Parc Olympique
The OSM invites the public to offer one final homage and thank you Maestro Nagano for his inestimable contribution. #MERCIMAESTRO
