Almost half of Montreal Formula E tickets were giveaways
Montreal Formula E Tickets – After constant demands from Montrealers and opposition party Projet Montréal, concerning how many tickets were actually sold for the controversial Formula E electric car race last July, Montreal c’est electrique (MCE), organizers of the race, released a statement today saying that 20,000 of the 45,000 Montreal Formula E Tickets available for the event were given away – for free.
The Montreal Formula E Tickets were given to spectators, several groups and local residents – but the numbers might even be skewed as there are questions about how many of the 25,000 tickets they claim were sold, were actually given away to sponsors as well.
Projet Montréal hounded Mayor Coderre about failing to disclose the information throughout the election campaign – and his response was always the same, saying that information would not be made public until after the election, blaming the delay on the accounting firm who was mandated to go over the books.
Valérie Plante, leader of Projet Montréal responded quickly to the announcement, saying in a CBC report that ‘20,000 tickets given away out of 45,000 was an enormous number and she still has questions about the event’.
“What were the economic benefits? Was it worth it for the citizens who felt trapped and the businesses that lost money?” she asked – a question many Montrealers would like to hear answered.
