Fashion in the city – Festival Mode et Design
By: Arturo Las Piñas Jr.
This year marked the 14th edition of the fashion and design festival.
Located in it’s new home in the Quartiers Des Spectacles, the four day event is a unique affair, displaying free outdoor runway shows, pop-up boutiques and mini music concerts, all designed to invite the general public into a world that usually is thought to be accessible only to those within the industry.
The festival traditionally showcases clothing lines from mainstream stores such as GUESS, Le Chateau and Target, but has now expanded to include Québec designers that normally used to participate in the now cancelled Montreal Fashion Week.
Festival highlights included Geneviève Borne as the official spokesperson, student designers from Lasalle College and the “Défilez sans cliché show”, showcasing 15 non-model contest winners.
The finale, “Fashion Soul”, was a showcase of Afro-American culture on international fashion, directed by Angelo Cadet and styled by Sophie Lanza.
