FrancoFolies 2017 line-up – the outdoor shows
The sun was finally shining this past Tuesday when the organizers of the 29th edition of the FrancoFolies unveiled the outdoor program. For those who like French songs, this is a unique opportunity to attend a wide variety of concerts for free on different stages in the Quartier des spectacles, around Place des Arts.
The FrancoFolies will run from June 8 to June 18, but this year it would add some extra events given the occurrence of two iconic anniversaries. On June 18, from 3 p.m. at the Ford Stage, and from 6:30 p.m. at the Bell Stage, the FrancoFolies will be celebrating the 375 years of Montreal with a monster concert. The event will include Les Cowboys Fringants, IAM, Louve (Arianne Moffatt, Marie-Pierre Arthur, Amylie, Laurence Lafond-Beaulne, Salomé Leclerc, and more). There will be nine hours of non-stop music, from rock to reggae, rap to pop, electronica to “chanson.”
The other big party will be to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary, which will take place on June 27 starting at 2 p.m. at the Parterre Symphonique (Place des Arts). Under the title “Fêtons la diversité” the occasion will mark Canada’s multiculturalism, with a broad range of activities that reflect the cultural diversity of our country. This event will include music performed by artists from different backgrounds and a gigantic BBQ. It will be a typical family event which has been conceived in collaboration with Vision Diversité, Mundial Montreal, and the Festival International Nuits d’Afrique.
The outdoor concerts will start on June 8 at the Ford Stage with performances by Les Trois Accords, Dumas, Pierre Kwenders and Lydia Képinsky. The other big events will take place at the Bell Stage at 9 p.m. On June 9, the celebrated Paul Piché will be on stage with guests Koriass, Safia Nolin, and Laurence Jalbert. June 10 will be the turn of the 2 Frères, with guests Jonathan Painchaud and Bodh’aktan. June 11 will feature the show Desjardins, on l’aime-tu, with Avec pas de casque, Safia Nolin, Bernard Adamus, Philippe Brach and others. Yann Perreau will present his “Le fantastique des astres” with Pierre Kwenders, Laurence Nerbonne, and Philippe Brach on June 12. On June 13 the artist on stage will be Bernard Adamus with “Excellente soirée.” La Soiré Acadie Rock promises to be a great show on June 14, featuring Radio Radio, Lisa Leblanc, and others. From France, the group Tryo will perform on June 15. Karim Ouellet with special guests Sans Pression, Muzion et plus, will be on stage on June 16. Finally, on June 17 it will be the turn for Koriass with his show Love Supreme to entertain the audience.
Of course, these are only the main shows, but there will be much more on the various stages around the Place des Arts. For a detailed description and schedule of the shows visit www.francofolies.com
