High School students sent to Hospital after 3 buses collide
3 buses collide – Although there were no major injuries, 23 high school students were sent to the hospital on Monday and treated for minor wounds when 3 school buses collided – after the first one came to a sudden stop at an intersection on the Saint-Charles Avenue overpass over Highway 40 in Vaudreuil-Dorion. The overpass is known for collisions due to frequent traffic that backs up over the hill.
A little before 5:00pm yesterday, all three buses were heading north on St-Charles when the first bus slammed on its brakes and the two buses behind it were unable to stop in time to avoid the collision.
Sgt. Daniel Thibodeau of the Sûreté du Québec said the area is known for minor collisions, because the crest of the hill makes it hard for drivers to see stopped traffic in time.
Injured students between the ages of 13 and 17, were sent to the Valleyfield Hospital. The three bus drivers were being interviewed by investigators, but no criminal negligence is suspected in the accident.
For now, the police say the accident was due to slow reaction time at the wheel.
