Over 350 people showed up for the official launch of Marché Des Éclusiers in Montreal’s Old Port last Thursday, May 26th. Located on la rue de la Commune Ouest, corner McGill, this new hybrid market is fully committed to providing its customers local, sustainable produce from local farmers, making your summer brighter and healthier!

Marche 1  A private event was hosted to welcome this new gem where food and drinks were served until 10 p.m. which included wild scallop ceviche from Eileen’s, fresh fruits, bites from Omnivore (orzo salad with dried cranberry, mango and roasted peanuts) one of my favourite’s! Diablos Barbecue, smack in the middle of the market served up mini pulled pork sandwiches, lamb, chicken, bavette and brisket sandwiches.  I went a little nuts on those pulled pork burgers. Having been to the Marché the week before, I had also tried their homemade nachos and pulled pork poutine.

Marche 4I may have also tried some of the best homemade oatmeal, chocolate cookies from Café Volcanic Organic. A must-try! The bubbly was flowing and the cheese and charcuterie pairings at VIN RX were on point. Some of the best drinks though were found at the Nectar and co. juice bar where fresh fruits and local alcohol is used to blend really potent cocktails. My favourite: Cooler a la menthe which contains none other than one of my favourite gin’s, Ungava from Quebec, green tea, mint, lemon and honey. Oh wow, was that a refreshing one. Tastes exactly like a mojito without the calories!

Marche 6The night also featured local Jazz music from Jeff Louch and co. This upbeat environment will be present every day at the market, giving the opportunity to local musicians to be recognized and providing energy to an already sizzling Old Port. The market is open every day until November 30th. Whether you’re looking for a cool place to take a first date during the warm summer months, or grabbing drinks and food with friends, this outdoor food/bar scene is definitely worth checking out.

Marche 8Located directly on the water with a gorgeous view of Montreal’s Old Port, I have a strong feeling that Marché Des Éclusiers will be a force to be reckoned with this summer.
