Montreal Theatre – What’s Playing / Hello Broadway / Shrek the Musical
Montreal Theatre – The Lyric Theatre Singers, a Montreal theatrical institution since 1990, once again takes to the stage of the DB Clarke Theatre, located in the Hall Building of Concordia University’s downtown campus, with a brand new musical revue called “Hello Broadway”. There will be four performances of the show, running from June 15-17.
Created and directed by the long standing team of Bob Bachelor and Cathy Burns, “Hello Broadway” will feature the vocal and musical talents of 40 singers and five musicians – including 10 new female singers – as they present their unique salute to the greatest show tunes ever to be presented on the Broadway stage. It includes a salute to composer Jule Styne; highlights from such Broadway blockbusters as “A Chorus Line”, “Chicago”, “Grease”, “The Music Man” and “Hamilton”; and a mini musical presentation of the Broadway classic “Once Upon A Mattress”.
Tickets for “Hello Broadway” are $48, $32 for students and seniors, and $12 for children 12 years of age and under. Showtimes are at 8 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee on June 17. Donations of non-perishable food products to benefit the NDG Food Depot will also be accepted. For more information, or to purchase tickets, call 514-743-3382, or go to:
Still on the theatrical front, the West Island Theatre Association (WISTA) will present its ninth full book musical presentation. This time it’s “Shrek the Musical”, which will run for six performances on June 9, 10, 16 and 17 at the Louise Chalmers Theatre at John Rennie High School, located at 501 St. Jean Boulevard in Pointe Claire.
Based on the popular series of animated feature films – which in turn became a Tony Award-winning musical – “Shrek the Musical” presents in a pop up book fashion the story of a lovable green-skinned ogre who proves that there is more to a person than meets the eye (and ears). As well, following the June 10 and 17 matinee performances, audience members will have the chance to participate in separate meet & greet sessions with the cast. As well, 15% of the proceeds from tickets sales of the June 10 matinee will benefit Camp Erin Montreal, a free weekend-long camp for children who are affected by loss.
To purchase tickets, go to www.WISTA.ca/tickets, or by calling 1-800-838-3006.
