Montreal Times pet of the week – Gigi the Gentle Dog
Montreal Times pet of the week – Gigi is seven years old and is a mix between a Cocker Spaniel, a Poodle and ‘something else’ – according to Annis Petras her owner whose family moved to Montreal from Alberta just over 5 years ago and is very excited for Gigi being Montreal Times pet of the week.
“My husband had a job opportunity in Montreal and with the challenges we were facing, it was a good decision to move here… and we are very happy we did,” said Annis. “We were able to find a home with a big backyard at a reasonable price near the east end… when I saw my two kids (now ages thirteen and fifteen) playing in the yard I knew something was missing.”
Annis and her husband both had dogs when they were children, but living in small apartments and places that did not allow pets, kept them from getting one.
“Once we settled in here, we spoke with the kids about the responsibilities that come with a dog… they’re good kids and understood, so the decision was made!”
The opportunity came up through a friend who told her about a woman, who had to move back to England to be with her elderly parents and was looking for a home for her 2 year old dog.
“It was love at first sight! We kept her name Gigi because it seemed to suit her. The kids just adored her… she was in good health, very gentle, toilet trained (a big plus) and came with a boxful of toys!”
And so Gigi went home with her new family. She is a very loyal, intelligent dog, eager to please and today still has the energy of a puppy (that weighs close to thirty-five pounds) but is still very calm around people.
“We take her for long walks, and with the backyard she has plenty of space to run around. But she’s not a very good guard dog… she’s very friendly with strangers and hardly ever barks! She’s the best!”
Gigi the Gentle dog might not scare an unwanted guest away, but she sure knows how to capture a heart!
