Smoke Meat Pete annual Grand Opening birthday bash March 4th
It’s that time of year again, Pete’s Birthday Bash, Saturday March 4th, 2017! The birthday event has been set up and is ready to serve you the best of the best! Food will be ‘cooked to perfection on Real Hardwood Maple Charcoal’. The live music will be all day starting at 1pm going well into the night.
We’ll start the festivities off at 1pm until midnight! Traditionally Pete and his beautiful lady love Melanie fly off to Mexico for a few weeks every year around this time, leaving Smoke Meat Pete’s closed for one month. Working 7 days a week equals some sun and fun near the ocean and they both deserve some downtime. While the cats are away, the mice don’t play; Pete’s Smoke Meat gets their annual scrub down.
Round up your buddies and head over to Pete’s Grand Opening Birthday Bash celebration on March 4th. If it is anything like last year and the year before you won’t want to miss it. Free parking, fabulous smoked meat, ribs and steak all at your fingertips and of course a line-up of close very talented friends singing and playing the best and the latest blues. Don’t forget the free birthday cake, it’s always yummy! Come on down March 4th, to Smoke Meat Pete’s!
History never gets old: For decades the Varvaro family has had restaurants and nightclubs running through their veins, they eat, sleep and breathe the culinary and entertainment world in and outside of Montreal. Ile Perrot’s Smoke Meat Pete comes from a long line of Varvaro men in the business, his grandfather the late Dominic Varvaro, took over the once famous El Morocco supper nightclub, located at 1445, rue Lambert-Closse.
Pete’s Aunt Anna remembers the likes of Joan Rivers, Jackie Mason and Eartha Kitt making appearances, along with many more international stars. She remembers her father took it over and had it going until 1962 or 63. Back then it was all the fashion to attend cabaret clubs.
The staff wore black and red, Aunt Anna remembers bits and pieces of those days, she is so proud of her family’s hard work, when you own a business you end up working 7 days a week, she said. “The El had the prettiest chorus line, the funniest comics, the thickest steaks and the strongest drinks”, Al Palmer (Montreal Journalist), once wrote. Imagine that, strongest drinks which probably means; they didn’t water them down, those were the days. Pete, his brothers and sister may have not been old enough or even born yet when El Morocco was making its big splash in Montreal, but they were involved in the next chapter of a family business.
Working side by side with their father; Peter Varvaro at his restaurant The Main, located on St. Lawrence Street. Not only famous for his food but he had a wide variety of costumers, including Al Pacino, Celine Dion and Mordecai Richler. Smoke Meat Pete 514-425-6068 283 1st.
