STYX wows Strangers in Night 2017 massive crowd – Amazing videos and pictures!
Strangers in Night 2017 – Over 5,000 Styx Renegades, joined the Strangers in the Night foundation to as triumphantly return after a fourteen year absence of the band with a tour and a new album. Their new album, The Mission., has been critically acclaimed and is an album; one must hear it from beginning to end like the good old days. Styx and Stranger in the Night 2017 had a mission and it was triumphant
Styx were in fine form and did not disappoint with the opening track from The Mission to set the stage and performed several hits, including Blue Collar Man, Lady, Come Sail Away, Miss America, and their first hit Miss Madame Blue.
Lawrence Gowan who joined Styx in 1999 was in true form and his voice was pure His number one hit Criminal Of My Mind has become somewhat of a Styx song as the band pointed out.
Gowans piano solo included the Pointe Claire choir, essential the 5000 Renegades, who sang to Queens shortened version of Bohemian Rhapsody and The Beatles. The choir sounded surprisingly in tune considering the open bar for the VIP section.
The highlight of the evening was the onstage presence of Chuck Panozzo, whose brother John was one of the founding members of Styx. John died in 1996. Chuck Panozzo had his own health issues and has precluded him from doing live shows, and we were fortunate enough to have heard him play.
The harmonies of James de Young, Tommy Shaw and Gowan were on mark and no one can dispute that. Notably absent was their number one hit Babe and Paradise Theatre, but I guess those are Deni’s songs and the band has chosen a harder sound. That was their Mission and it succeeded!
The Montreal Times would like to acknowledge the great work Larry Day and his team have done. Great job!
