Who will be the Queen of the Hudson St. Patrick’s Parade? That question will be answered on Sunday, Feb. 24, during the official Queen Selection Night at the Auberge Willow Inn in Hudson.
The selection night is one of the premier events leading up to the annual parade, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. And to mark this milestone, the young woman who will be crowned Queen of the parade will win two return tickets to Dublin, Ireland, courtesy Aer Lingus, the official airline of the Hudson St. Patrick’s Parade.
“We are thrilled to announce that Aer Lingus has joined us as an official sponsor,” said parade committee chairman Jay de la Durantaye. “It is a measure of how this little parade and all the activities leading up to it have grown into a truly respected and encompassing community celebration.”
Applications to be the Queen of Hudson’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade are still being accepted. The deadline is Feb. 15.
To qualify for Queen, an applicant must meet the following criteria:
• Have some Irish heritage
• Be a Canadian citizen of the Greater Montreal area
• Be between the ages of 18 and 30
• Willing and available to attend parade functions in Hudson during the weeks leading up to the parade, and be a special guest at the Montreal parade on Sunday, March 17.
In addition to the airline tickets, the Queen will also be awarded $500 from the Hudson Parade Organizing Committee and be showered with gifts from parade sponsors.
Judges will evaluate the contestants on confidence, public speaking, community involvement, spirit and crowd participation. Each contestant will be asked to respond to one or two questions, which they will be given before the event begins.
Applications must be made online at www.hudsonparade.ca on the Queen’s application page.
