Local Montreal Tours has another number one hit on their hands with their Mile-End Montreal Food Tour. I had the opportunity with 13 other people, some locals, some visiting from Toronto, Queens New York and one all the way from Lebanon to eat some unique food with.

The Mile-End is well known for its diversity in the neighborhood. Friendly people many of who know each other. We began our food journey with vegan at La Panthère Verte on St. Viateur Ouest; our second stop had us all intrigued with their Rocky like visible freezer of hanging meat. We indulged in several types of cheese, slices of salami and porchetta at Boucherie Lawrence. As you enter you can smell the meat hanging. They served us a little beer from Shawinigan called La Saison du Tracteur.

Anne-Marie our lovely tour guide, gave us the history of the Mile-End, she explained how this area still has that village feeling of what it once was. It has New York flair to it, along Fairmount Ouest you can relax sitting on the rainbow colored benches and enjoy an ice cream sorbet at Kem CoBa. Vincent who is French and his wife Ngoc who is Vietnamese own this sheik local, the name means; the ice cream of the 3rd Aunt.

We sailed on to more Mile-End delights, a little Greek, a peek inside the Rialto Theatre and of course chocolate. I can’t forget the famous bagels and St. Viateur Bagel. Jordan from Queens New York, said, “This was a great mix of different kinds of places”.

Anne-Marie took us up and down local streets to really get a feeling of the neighborhood. Whether you’re from out of town or just the town over, the food tour is a smart outing to choose. This is the Number one activity in Montreal according to trip advisor. This is an especially good day tour for our unexpected out of town guests.
