Crescent 3Members of foreign media who come to cover the Grand Prix du Canada are always surprised by the atmosphere that this event creates: a festive atmosphere that is not limited to race car fans but a large part of the population—plus many visitors who descend en masse on our city on this occasion. If there is a site that somehow epitomizes that festive feeling, that is certainly Crescent Street, which during the three days preceding the race is closed to traffic and instead becomes an exhibition place for the state of the art cars and accessories, and above all, a giant concert venue.

“The Crescent Street Merchants’ Association and Montrealers have been waiting too long for the return of the warmer weather,” said Steve Siozios, president of the popular street’s merchants association. “We welcome the festival season and invite all Montrealers to join our merchants in kicking-off the summer season at the Festival.”

Crescent 2The Crescent Street Grand Prix Festival started in 1999, and the organizers claim that since then “the Festival has transformed the street into a free venue for race aficionados, tourists and Montrealers to celebrate the biggest race in Canada. Every night, there are live performances on the main stage by top Canadian bands. The stage also draws crowds with driver appearances, autograph sessions and DJs mixing the hottest music all day long.”

The numerous bars and restaurants along Crescent and adjacent streets also provide a good opportunity to taste local beer or try the diverse gastronomic offerings in this most typical neighbourhood of downtown Montreal. If visitors are looking for something more practical for their use or just show off their skills, at the Shell booth “guests will have the chance to win Shell fuel when they test their racing skills in the Shell Unleashed video game! Festival-goers will also have the chance to enjoy racing simulators, see a show car, take a 3D journey through the inside of an engine and dress up in racing gear for a selfie on the #ShellVPowerNiTRO winner’s podium.”
