PY1 a new entertainment concept comes to the Old Port
This summer, the Clock Tower site at the Old Port will have a sense of “pyramid power”, as an original, innovative concept in entertainment will take shape thanks to Lune Rouge, a new entertainment company established by Guy Laliberte, the founder of Cirque du Soleil.
Called “PY1”, it will run at its Old Port base from June 1 until the end of September and be housed in a pyramid-shaped structure that can hold up to 600 spectators. The show is called “Through the Echoes”, a 60-minute immersive multimedia entertainment experience. Through laser displays, 360-degree projections, kinetic videos and sceneries, special effects and lighting, the show will take the audience for a journey through space and time that will not only explore the origins of the universe, but also give them a chance to create their own interactive journey into the future.
“’Through the Echoes’ is the first show that has been created for PY1. The audience will embark upon a whole new way of telling a story, as well as stimulate the senses in what will be an emotional journey for them,” said Jean Guibert, who is PY1’s Creative Director.
“This is more of an experience in storytelling rather than a scientific story. It’s a poetic story that tells the story of the world from its origins to today,” he added. “And it’s a more active experience for the audience. By watching the show standing up instead of sitting down, it will give them the freedom to move anywhere within the interior of the pyramid, establish a physical relationship to outer space, and even give them the opportunity to create their own story about the formation of the world and humanity.”
Construction of the PY1 pyramid site at the Old Port is expected to begin in mid-February. After its Montreal run ends in September, PY1 will embark upon a North American tour, which begins with a run in Miami, Florida. Tickets are now available for a limited-time price of $29.75 (plus fees and taxes), and can be purchased at www.PY1.com.
