How do you make a good thing better? Make more…thats exactly what Cunninghams Pub and their team are doing. The 3rd Cunninghams opened 3 weeks ago in the town of Huntingdon, Quebec.
Huntingdon, near Ormstown and the U.S border is a small rural community with a whopping 2465 residents. Now you are probably asking the same question in your mind as we asked Jim Beauchamp, owner and operator of the Cunninghams Pubs’…WHY HUNTINGDON?
“ It was a great opportunity to expand the Cunninghams name and in a beautiful community of the Chateauguay Valley” says Beauchamp.
“We were introduced to two great guys named Jon VanHorne and Brent Joly, who have been to Cunninghams Ste Annes on several occasions, and are from the Huntingdon area.”
Jon purchased a building that used to house the old Bamboo bar and wanted to create something special for the town of Huntingdon. “They were big fans of the Cunninghams in Ste Annes, and after a few months of negotiations and a few pints, the deal was done” chuckles Beauchamp, “Jon and Brent have great pride in their community and they truly believed that Huntingdon and the Valley could and would support a new Pub like Cunninghams.”
“We are also very happy to have Mr. Clint Day on board as general manager. Clint has worked and owned many iconic locations in the West island such as Quai Sera, Cj’s, and Clints. His knowledge of the business and his people skills are second to none” says Beauchamp.
Only 21 days open, Cunninghams is surpassing all its goals and projected sales. The community as a whole has been very supportive, as have local businesses.
The Pub sits on the steady flowing Chateauguay river. The river is fed from the mountains of New York state and the waters are teeming with fish. If you sit on the terrasse right around dusk, you can watch the fish jumping for their supper.
Cunninghams has 16 drafts on tap including the Sleemans family of drafts as well as Guinness, Kilkenny, Harp just to name a few. They even have their own brand of beer brewed for them by Sleemans which is called SMARTPIG…a play on the name CUNNINGHAMS. They have over 25 single malt scotches in their menu that can allow the newcomer to have a smooth easy, drinking scotch, or the connoisseur to enjoy a smoky, peaty scotch.
“Live music is an impiortant part of the Cunninghams vibe”, says Beauchamp, “we have live accoustic styled music at all 3 of the Cunninghams Pub on Thursday,Friday & Saturday nights and we never have a cover charge.”
The greatest achievement for Cunninghams is the quality of their food. “Yes, we are a Pub and we do have pub food…but we also have beautiful main dishes that Executive Chef Dan Dumesnil and his team prepare. There are choices such as Guinness braised Lamb Shanks, Salmon au beurre blanc, Guinness Irish stew and Steak & Kidney pie” state Beauchamp “but we are truly known for our award winning chicken wings.”
