Montreal Restaurant News – What’s new in June?


Summer has finally arrived in Montreal and what it means is that it’s time to go out, that it is time to go out, eat out and enjoy. Good thing there are lots of things going on at our favourite restaurants these days: openings (re)openings, new concepts, new chefs, new menus … So, what is new in the Restaurant Industry this month? Let’s check it out!

Long-time favourite Chez Victoire celebrates their 10 years with a new menu, terrace and decor

To celebrate their 10th anniversary – yes, this Plateau-Mont-Royal restaurant has been open for 10 years and there are a lot of reasons to celebrate considering it is rare for a restaurant to last that long – restaurant Chez Victoire, where you will encounter the same power team since its opening ( chef Alexandre Gosselin and owner/maitre D Sindie Goineau) is offering many promotions and specials. Porchetta night is Monday (20$), Oyster night is Tuesday (1$ per oyster) and a selection of wine bottles are offered at half price on Wednesdays. And, in addition to these 10th anniversary promos, notice the new patio that was built on Mont-Royal Street and the new and revamped decor of the restaurant that is still amazingly good, even a decade later.


Restaurant Licence IV moved to Old Montreal

The popular French-bistro of Griffintown celebrated their 2nd anniversary in style with… a new location ! Since June 19th, Licence IV is now located at 143 Saint-Paul Street West in Old Montreal. New space, new decor, new menu : everything (or almost everything) is new except the European-inspired decor and the classic French bistro menu at Licence IV.

LOV opened a gorgeous new location (with a terrace) at DIX30

Two years after opening their very-first restaurant in Old Montreal, LOV (Local Organic Vegan) opened their 4th location at DIX30. LOV fans will be happy to find themselves on familiar grounds (the decor is as instagram-worthy as at every location), the menu is the same delicious vegan dishes (brunch, lunch, dinner) that were conceived at the opening by chef Stephanie Audet. The cocktail list is still impressive and the new DIX30 location also benefits from a vast patio to enjoy the warm summer days.

La Champagnerie became Maison Saint-Paul

For their 6th anniversary, the popular champagne bar of Old Montreal wanted to change their concept. La Champagnerie then became Maison Saint-Paul at the beginning of June, just in time for their busiest time: bachelorette season! The decor has been refreshed to be more feminine and the menu rethought by chef Jacques Coutu to be lighter. The establishment still wants to be “the place to be” for champagne sabering in the city and will continue to organize sabering celebrations on demand.

Ryu Peel moved to a new location… on Peel

Ryu, who has been serving sustainable and high-quality sushis on Peel street for years now, recently moved to a wider and more modern space on the same street. Now located at 1474 Peel, the new restaurant offers an impressive decor imagined by designer Guillaume Ménard (Blossom, Kamehameha),  50 seats inside and a 16-people outside terrace. The menu has been reimagined to reflect what the downtown clientele wants (more Japanese dishes, cooked meals perfect for a business lunch or dinner date). The old location (1486 Peel) will soon welcome another Livia Matcha, another concept from the Ryu Group that is serving healthy options (smoothie bowls, matcha tea, specialty coffees and salads).
