Hey Baby! Help Generations Foundation Feed Kids!
In this day and age, it is shocking to hear that children go to school hungry. Even more astonishing is that it is happening in Montreal.
A child cannot concentrate, cannot focus in class if he is hungry. Just think of what we might lose out on because one bright little star is fading and is not working at his studies…all because he is hungry. A child might have the to become a brilliant scientist who discovers the cure for cancer, someone who has the ability to bring Peace to the battling nations of the world, another Maya Angelo, perhaps?
Adrian and Natalie Bercovici of Generations Foundation take care of children who, for whatever reason, leave home in the morning hungry.
Every morning, with a dedicated group of volunteers, they gather together their forces and pick up food and beverages from participating restaurants and companies, to take to children in schools in Montreal and out in the West Island. From full meals to snacks, Generations Foundation makes sure that tummies are full and kids can work at their full capacity. They do not charge the parents for these meals. They depend on donations from the community.
Over the years the number of schools and learning centers that Generations cares for has escalated to 96, feeding 7700 per day! That’s a lot of kids needing a lot of food – and a lot of money is needed to purchase the food. The Bercovicis work closely with volunteers in each school with the full support of teachers and principals. It is a remarkable hands on approach that works! And they should know as they have been working at this since 2000.
On July 5, S&S Events is presenting the Hey Baby! Baby, Toddler, Mom & Pop Fair at Eden Hall in Dollard des Ormeaux. A portion of the ticket sales to the event will be donated to Generations Foundation to help the group in its never ending cause.
Is this effort really worth while? You bet it is. Teachers will tell you that there has been an increase in the level of attention paid in class. Students are paying attention. So the schools are seeing higher academic results. And…the kids want to be in school – there has been a decrease in tardiness and absenteeism. Most importantly, teachers have seen a decrease in violence and aggression. It is clear that investing in these children will improve their lives greatly. It can’t be argued that, in the long run, we will see these children contributing to and becoming part of a productive and progressive society.
It doesn’t stop there with the Bercovicis. They send some of these children to camp in the summer, they make sure that there are gifts under a tree for them at Christmas, they provide emergency food baskets to families who find themselves in a dire situation.
So please, be a part of this remarkable group and contribute by stopping by the Hey Baby Fair on July 5 from 10 to 6. There will be some wonderful entertainment for the kids – Blair Marshall will be there performing his magic as only he can! There will be face painting, and book readings of Pat Nicholson’s beautiful stories for children. 4CatsArt will have two tables where your little ones can ‘create’ their own masterpieces, and Cinderella might be dropping by!
The experts on child care will also be in attendance helping you care for your little one. Tracy Braunstein from Sleep Tight Solutions, Stacy Baker, a pediatric nurse, on CPR and anaphylactic shock, Stephanie Moram on how to make your own baby wipes…the green way! And so much more!
Some of the specialists in baby retail will be there, some with amazing specials for parents. Chimparoo has dropped its prices on its gorgeous carries for babies! GL Fotographie, baby photo art at its best, will also have a contest for a photography session, Montreal Institute of Swimming also has a special going for the event! And Dors Bebe Dors with its strollers, car seats and other baby accessories.
Come on out on July 5 and help Hey Baby support Generations! Remember, part of that ticket you purchase will go to feeding a child in your neighbourhood. You will be learning, having fun with your kiddies…and making a difference in another child’s life.
It’s all about children at the Hey Baby, Baby, Toddler, Mom & Pop Fair!
You can purchase tickets on line for $8 or at the door for $10.
