KM³ – An Interactive Art Display in the Quartier des Spectacles this Fall

KM³  – From August 30th until October 15th, the Quartier des Spectacles will bring you a unique artistic experience throughout Fall. Throughout the Quartier, over 20 different art installations will be displayed on buildings walls, parks, sidewalks, shop windows and much more.

The concept is to encourage locals and tourists to discover the city in a new light, like you’ve never seen it before. It includes interactive art as well as simply visual installations, all with the same goal: to shine light on our beautiful city. In participation with Montreal’s 375th birthday, artists from all over the world, both local and foreign, have created an amazing artistic itinerary throughout the Quartier, so you can discover innovative public art.

In total, there will be 22 art installations, mainly concentrated around metro Saint-Laurent. One of the interactive installations includes “Côte à Côte”, created by local artists, Caroline Robert and Vincent Morisset. They have created an interactive white bench that creates vibrant light when people sit on it. The art created by people sitting on it is projected onto a big screen. It enables people to share a moment and come together, by having them create something. Both Carline and Vincent talk about their public art as destruction and creation continually collide together. The “Côte à Côte” installations will be at Place de la Paix.

Another example of what to expect at KM³, it Patrick Bérubé’s “Notre AND”, installation: a spiral staircase, mimicking Montreal’s famous and architectural heritage embodying neighbourhood culture and alley ways. Suspended in the air and full of anomalies, Bérubé’s exposition reminds us that it is our differences that form our collective identity. You’ll be able to find this spiral staircase on the Promenade des Artistes.
