Festival de Lanaudière is now underway

By: Stuart Nulman

Known as being the largest classical musical festival in Canada, the Festival de Lanaudiere is now underway. And until August 10, classical music enthusiasts will enjoy the best that classical music has to offer (including concerts by the MSO, the Orchestre Metropolitain and even the dance Theatre of Harlem) in a serene bucolic setting.

This week, rising young cellist Stephane Tetrault will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of composer Richard Strauss by performing three of his works with the festival orchestra (July 12), and the 100th anniversary of the Royal 22nd Regiment will be celebrated with a concert on July 13 filled with classical and modern music, as well as a special military march composed for the occasion, and a performance by soprano Natalie Choquette.

And it’s even easier to make your way to the festival amphitheatre. The Festival Express shuttle departs every Friday and Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m. to the festival site from the Infotouriste Centre on Peel Street, with a stop-over at the Radisson Metro station at around 5:20. As well, there will be an additional bus leaving from Cavendish Mall at 5 p.m. on August 2, 6 and 9. For more information about festival shows or to buy tickets, go to or call 1-800-561-4343.
