Mutek Montreal – There is electronic music and there are the selections of artists who will be performing at the Mutek festival and who find themselves globally in a universe in their own right!
Twenty years ago, the festival was mostly geared towards a circle of initiates. Today, it attracts crowds from all over the world, even more so since the democratization of music and technology. The event has continued to grow in popularity ever since. Mutek is now operating in seven countries where its activities are echoing from Barcelona, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Dubai, San Francisco and as far away as Tokyo.
Over the years, the festival has become a reference for its more artistic, contemporary, cerebral and technical content than most electronic music festivals. Taking place over six days this year in Montreal, from August 20 to 25, it is full of exciting events that push the limits of creativity even further with its bold programming. To commemorate the occasion, the Montreal microbrewery Harricana has created a limited-edition beer; a tasty Pale Ale made from Cascade hops from Quebec. Even more reasons why any electronic music enthusiast must be there!
Initially held in the spring, the festival has been taking place in the heart of summer since 2017. This initiative is highly appreciated by festival-goers and has seen all the more resounding success. By setting up its headquarters in the new studios of the Les 7 Doigts creative collective this year, Mutek is further highlighting innovation in artistic production, both in Montreal and on an international scale. Shows will be held throughout the city, including at the head office in the studios of Les 7 Doigts, at the Agora Hydro-Québec du Cœur des Sciences of l’UQAM, at PY1, at MTELUS, at SAT, and Théâtre Maisonneuve, as well as free performances on the Esplanade de la Place des Arts.
The magnificent concert hall of the Gesù will host the second collaboration between Mutek and AKOUSMA; the festival of immersive digital music, where Estelle Schorpp will perform with Le rêve de Maneki-Neko, Hugo Tremblay to: escape) alone” to the “Alone, Alexis Nemtchenko alias Merovee with FIELDS and Pierre-Luc Lecours will present Éclats | Noir. The partnership between Piknic Electronik continues this year, as Mutek’s artists storm Parc Jean-Drapeau to mark the festival’s beautiful outdoor closing on Sunday, August 25. Don’t miss out!
