Montreal commute – If you’ve been keeping up with the news recently, or have lived in this city for more than ten seconds, you’ll know that getting from A to B in Montreal can be an ordeal that tests the nerves of even the best among us. Despite a public transport infrastructure that was once hailed as one of the best in the world, these days metro and bus users are confronted with record amounts of delays and breakdowns on an almost daily basis. While there’s little us regular guys can do about having to squeeze into a packed metro carriage that’s 20 minutes late on a Monday morning, we can at least try to make the experience slightly more bearable. Here’s your guide to coping with the Montreal commute.
Get a Playlist Ready
Dealing with the cramped and dingy metro stations of downtown Montreal can be an assault on the senses, to say the least. From the powerful odour of thousands of sweaty, enraged commuters, to listening to the voices of the monotone STM staff blaring from the speakers, announcing yet another delay, the experience can feel overwhelming at times. The best way to cope with this is to tune out and come equipped with a killer MTL commute playlist. Naturally, you may want to load up your Spotify with the musical creations of some of the city’s greatest artists. No matter how daunting your commute might seem, a little bit of Arcade Fire, Simple Plan and of course, the dearly departed legend that is Leonard Cohen, will start your day off on the best possible footing.
Maybe you’re determined to tune out your commute completely so that you arrive at the office acting like it never happened, or maybe you need an outlet to release your anger at the sweaty guy rubbing up against you on the metro. Either way, investing in some engrossing and entertaining phone games may be the way to go. You can, of course, start with the classics such as Angry Birds, Candy Crush etc. but you might want to move up to something more advanced for when things get too draining. If you’re a fan of some skills-based classic games like poker, blackjack or baccarat, you can play them online to pass the time. There’s no shortage of seriously engaging Casino Games you can play on your phone to help to drown out the noise. You might even win some big money, while you’re at it, before you even clock into work.
Mix Things Up
Sometimes the most frustrating thing about any commute is the monotony of it all. Rather than dealing with the same journey every day, mix things up by walking some of the route, or taking a different form of public transport. Even just walking some of the way to work in the morning has the potential to raise your mood levels, productivity and of course, physical fitness, so mix things up and see how you feel.
While it’s easy to complain about the STM, they do have a hard job to do. Our transport network may be far from perfect, but there are still few others in the world that compare.
