Japan – Art Lounge is a space in the Mile End which aims to redefine the way we think and experiment with art and space. Their contemporary art gallery also holds a café/restaurant area, a library and and stage for musical performances. On the first and the ninth of February, they are having a public viewing of their latest exhibition, “Made in Japan”. Both of these viewings will enable you to interact with the artists involved and pose questions related to the message they are trying to spread. “Made in Japan” will be available for viewing at Art Lounge for this entire season.
On the first public viewing on February 1st, there will be a performance of traditional Japanese music by Bruno Chikushin Deschenes and Yumiko Kanao. There will be a viewing of Tokyo street wear, traditional Japanese ceramic, contemporary Japanese art, stamps and calligraphy. On February 9th, Matsu Také will be performing throughout the evening and there will be a discussion about Japanese philosophy, martial arts and cinema.
