Another Brick in the Wall – The Opera received two Opus Awards at the 21st Opus Awards Gala, recognizing the excellence, vitality, and diversity of the Quebec music scene. Named Musical Event of the Year, Another Brick in the Wall – The Opera, based on the words and music of The Wall by Roger Waters, is an operatic reinterpretation of the original work composed by Julien Bilodeau and staged by Dominic Champagne.

This operatic work, co-produced by Les Productions Opéra Concept MP and the Cincinnati Opera Association, received its world premiere at the Opéra de Montréal, presented in collaboration with the Society for the Celebration of Montreal’s 375th Anniversary.

Composer Julien Bilodeau received the Composer of the Year award for his remarkable operatic reinterpretation of the classic work by Pink Floyd.

Another Brick in the Wall – The Opera was also nominated in the categories of Concert of the Year – Montreal and Concert of the Year – Modern and Contemporary Music.

Remember that the ten performances of Another Brick in the Wall – The Opera were presented to sold out audiences, drawing close to 29,000 spectators—record attendance for the Opéra de Montréal. The show was very widely covered in the media, generating infectious enthusiasm internationally, from Le Figaro to Rolling Stone.

The American premiere of Another Brick in the Wall – The Opera will open in Cincinnati on July 20, 2018. Further information: cincinnatiopera.org

About the Composer of the Year – Julien Bilodeau

Julien Bilodeau was born in Quebec City in 1974. He graduated from the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal, then spent five years in France and Germany before returning to Montreal to pursue his career as a composer. Known for his rich, varied, and open aesthetics, his preference for the symphonic repertoire has enabled him to work with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (K. Nagano), the Orchestre Métropolitain (Y. Nézet-Séguin), the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas, the Orchestre de la Francophonie (J-P. Tremblay), the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne (L. Vaillancourt), Ensemble Itinéraire (Paris), I Musici (J-M. Zeitouni), and the Ensemble Modern (Frankfurt). He is currently credited with over 30 works.
