Christina and Johnny Capobianco – Like father, like daughter when it comes to Christina and Johnny Capobianco. “I have been performing with my father for the past fourteen years,” Christina said. Christina began performing at nine years old, and continues to perform in Montreal and Toronto. Christina and her father started singing together when she was sixteen for various bands. A few years later, their own band, The Grand Show Band, was born.
The Grand Show Band’s upcoming concerts on May 12 and 13 hope to raise funds for Generations Foundation, an organization the pair have been working with for five years now. “They took the initiative to host events and bring the community together to help children in need,” Christina Capobianco said.
While the Capobianco family has worked with Generations Foundation in the past, previous years have not featured the much anticipated live concert portion. Past dinner galas have hosted “over 700 guests each year,” Christina said. This year, however, they “decided to change it up and host a concert!”
After the concerts, a DJ will play until 2am to keep the party going.
Generations Foundation’s mission is “to develop and administer programs which will help improve the quality of life for persons of all ages.” Specifically, Generations Foundation feeds over 7,700 of Montreal’s children through their school programs each day. These programs include daily breakfasts, snacks, and hot lunches across 96 schools and education centres.
Aside from providing meals, Generations Foundation also supports after school programs including cooking classes and peer tutoring sessions. These programs have seen great success since their foundation, and have proven to make a difference in individual children’s lives.
However, Generations Foundation runs on donations with no government assistance. That means that the more fun you have at the upcoming Grand Band Show concert, the more children you will feed.
Both Generations Foundation and The Grand Show Band “would like to thank everyone that attends the event for the support,” said Christina. “Every ticket sold makes a difference in a child’s life.” Generations Foundation accepts donations year-round for those who cannot attend, but wish to help Montreal’s children.
The upcoming concert will also feature a silent auction with proceeds going to Generations Foundation.
