Over 800 rowers participated in the 8th annual Cedars CanSupport ‘Rain or Shine’ Dragon Boat Race & Festival last Saturday at Promenade Père-Marquette in Lachine
More than $500,000 was raised to the benefit of Cedars CanSupport, which ensures that cancer patients and their families across Montreal will continue to receive free practical, educational, emotional, and humanitarian support, as well as financial assistance at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC).
The Dragon Boat Race & Festival has become an annual tradition for the roughly 800 rowers and countless spectators who turn out each year.
The symbolic highlight of the event was an emotional carnation ceremony to honour those who have succumbed to cancer.
Olympic bronze medalist diver Roseline Filion, and Montreal Alouette’s quarterback Anthony Calvillo’s wife Alexia Calvillo, a cancer survivor, were on site for interviews.
A number of food trucks were present to cater to the hungry, and on-site activities included music, live entertainment, a Children’s Zone, with face painters and a bouncy castle, making the event a family-friendly destination.
