Arti Gogna – Custom designs for walking down the aisle or a girl’s night out
By Alyssa De Rosa – Montreal Times
Now that wedding season is here brides and guests are trying to get the best dresses at the best deals. Why not invest in a custom piece by a Montreal designer? At just 26-years-old not many people can say they have their own fashion line selling in stores in Montreal. Arti Gogna can – since she started pursuing her studies at Lasalle College a couple years ago her interests in fashion and designing grew and soon after, in her second year at Lasalle started a line of skirts. Arti Gogna is now its own brand – designing wedding dresses, bridesmaid, evening and cocktail dresses.
While killing time during break at Lasalle College, Gogna went to Razberry – a boutique which had just opened not long ago (at that time) in downtown. She courageously told the owner that she had created her own clothing line and asked if she’d be interested to sell it in her store. They said yes, and following that answer the response has been great. Her clothing is now being sold in stores like Razberry, 1861 as well as custom designs ordered through her website.
“I’m still learning what people like to wear and what they want to invest in,” Arti confesses. “I like creating pieces that are unique and when 1861 opened that’s when my line started picking up.”
Like many successful designers, women are her inspiration. “I appreciate simple dresses but right now what’s selling are my unique pieces,” she says while describing her collection. That is exactly what Arti Gogna is about – eloquent and classic evening wear with materials like lace and beads as well as flattering cuts fit for every shape and size.
“It’s all about building trust with the client,” she explains. That’s the secret to every designer’s success because no matter what, brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Versace and Calvin Klein will always survive in the industry because of their loyal clientele. It’s something Arti aspires to in the near future.
She’s almost there. The brand is currently expanding its location by renovating and moving into a bigger space with a showroom where clients will eventually be able to come in and get fittings done as well as see some of the collection.
Custom designs start at $350.00 for short and long dresses. In-store dresses range between $200.00 –$ 400.00. Custom designs usually take between two-three weeks depending on production and the type of creation the client wants done. Everything is made in Montreal so by purchasing Arti Gogna pieces clients are supporting local businesses.
As a young, female designer Arti Gogna feels it’s important for women to embrace their style and how they look. “Women should be strong, confident and powerful,” she says. “If you don’t feel it, fake it. As long as I feel good in something I’ll wear it, and if I don’t I’ll fake it.”
