Hudson St Patrick’s Day Parade – The season is right upon us, and the Hudson St. Patrick’s Day parade organizers are kicking it off with their first event, The Queen & Court selection night. The organizers are proud to announce that 8 young ladies will compete in this years night of festivities, vying to become Queen of all the Irish in the Vudreuil-Soulanges area and for the Hudson St Patrick’s Day Parade. The committee is also vey happy to announce that Mrs. Carol Laws, a long time volunteer in Hudson, has been chosen to be this years Queen Mum.
Carol moved to Hudson in 1977, and she started volunteering her time right away. She started volunteering with the Hudson YMCA, working at their pre-school and then started a pre-kindergarten cooking class.
Her many contributions to the community included work on the Hudson Canada Day celebrations for many years, volunteering at Mount Pleasant elementary school as class mother and being on the Home and School Association.
She then moved on to Evergreen School in St. Lazare and became a volunteer in the school office. This is were she had an idea to start a food bank.
“There was a family that attended the school, with three children, and the father lost his job. They had no money and I helped feed them for six weeks before his unemployment kicked in. I saw a great need for a food bank in the area, and after that Le Pont/Bridging Food Bank organization was born, and I’m happy to say its in its 20th year.”
In the last few years the Le Pont / Bridging food bank has become a Registered Charitable Organization with an income tax number, a board of directors and 9 dedicated members.
Carol is a shining example of a selfless volunteer and dedication to others in the Vaudreuil-Soulange community. It is for this reason she has been chosen to be the QUEEN MUM of the 8th Annual Hudson St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
“I am very happy to represent all the Irish in this years parade” says Laws. “After researching my ancestry I was proud to find that I have Irish blood on my fathers side of the family.”
Carols duties will be to attend all the parades many functions and to watch over the Queen and her princesses on parade day.
There are still tickets available for this great night of fun and festivities at Whiltock Golf & Country Club. Tickets are only $25 and include a choice of 3 “Irish” styled meals, the pageant and the great SALTY DOG playing after the pageant.
