On Rock Food Bank – On Rock Community Services is committed to making a difference for people in need – and right now they really need your help to restock their food supplies. It is often during the summer months when the food banks run low – schools with food programs are closed, leaving some families with not enough to feed their children. People are away on vacation – and the shelves of the food banks run low.
On Rock, located in the Pierrefonds-Roxboro area, is struggling to find food that would help to sustain a family for a few days at a time – and they have 220 families to feed.
On Rock Food Bank is looking for:
- meat and fish
- baked beans
- vegetables and tomatoes
- Peanut butter, jam
- pasta sauce, pasta
- and other items.
School Lunch Program and a Community Diner
They provide an important resource for the community, which not only includes the Food Bank but also a School Lunch Program and a Community Diner. Not having enough food to put on the table for your family is hard to imagine for most people, but it is an unfortunate reality for many others. As they state on their website, ‘Historically, the West Island of Montreal was known as a predominately upper middle class area.
Over the years, it has changed significantly in terms of its socio-economic make-up. There now exists a group that could be referred to as the “invisible poor”. These people live among us and go un-noticed for the most part, because we do not expect to see them. However, if one paid closer attention it would become quite evident that some of our neighbors need our help.’ And it is through their volunteers and companies that donate food, that they are able to help feed families.
On Rock is a Nonprofit Organization and also accepts monetary donations. They can provide Official Receipts for income tax purposes. Please visit their website at www.onrock.org. *FOOD DONATIONS CAN BE DROPPED OFF AT: 9554 Boul. Gouin W. Pierrefonds, QC. You can also call them at (514) 696-1905.
