Tired of hearing the “New Year, New You” adage? How about doing in. For real. The new year calls for decisions, taking up new challenges, trying out new things and, mostly, indulging in a little detox after a long hibernation of not doing much while eating way too much. Here are 5 ways to detox before (seriously) starting 2019.
– Try spinning
If you’ve never tried spinning (a spin class is a high intensity cycling workout that takes place on a stationary machine with a heavy, weighted flywheel that is linked to the pedals), the New Year is certainly the perfect occasion to do so. With the recent opening of a new Spinco location in Montreal (the successful spinning company has studios all-around Canada), the timing has never been better. To celebrate the opening of its first Quebec-based studio, Spinco offers, for a limited time, free classes and special pre-opening rates to make sure you try at least one class before saying no. What to expect during spinning: hard work, much sweat, and a lot of endorphins at the end of this one-hour high intensity work out class.
– Treat yourself to a facial
Because it’s minus 1000 outside and our poor skin is tired, pale and in desperate need of some love and pampering, the beginning of the year is the perfect time to treat ourselves to a relieving facial treatment. Even better : a detox facial, offered at any of the two THE TEN SPOT Montreal locations, that is meant to detoxify and energize the skin from the harsh winter elements with the most powerful detoxifying skincare ingredient in the game: charcoal. That is what New Year, New You (skin) means.
– Switch to tea
We have been hearing it for years, but drinking tea is better for your health, digestion and also is more detoxifying for your body than coffee. But, since we all love coffee so much, let’s make a compromise here and trade our morning coffee every once in a while for detox tea cup. Kusmi Tea celeb Detox blends was created especially to energize and cleanse your system. New recipes : BB Detox (grapefruit), Blue Detox (roobois) are also available to combine well-being with sweet notes. You will certainly find a recipe you enjoy within their three Detox blends.
– Start a yoga practice
The secret to a healthy body is to vary your workouts so your muscles and mind won’t get “used to it”. The beginning of the year is the ideal time to refresh a tired fitness routine, kick-start a new training program and explore new workout classes. Expo Yoga, taking place at Montreal’s Palais des Congrès February 8-10, is the perfect place to get a “yoga 101” introduction, learn which practice suits you best (yes, there are plenty), and what kind of yogi you want to be. With more than 80 yoga teachers, masters and speakers and 200 exhibitors, it is the perfect place to start, explore and find all your answers… then begin your practice.
– Drink (smart) water
You know what they say: we should drink 68 ounces (2 liters) of water a day. While we mostly do not reach this ambitious number on a regular basis, why not try “smart” water to make ourselves feel better. Flow Water is 100% pure Alkaline Water sourced in Ontario, Canada. In 2019, it is understandable that you do not drink the recommended daily water intake, but perhaps taking from time to time some healthy mineral water (the package is also 100% recyclable and renewable) to stay hydrated is a good idea.
