Saint Gabriel’s Parish was the first Catholic church built in the Point in 1890, and has been an important gathering place for many generations of the Irish community in Montreal.
Large cracks have been found in the east tower, and part of the facade of the rectory attached to the church has detached.
The cost of repairs are estimated between $300,000. and $400,000.
So far fundraising efforts have raised a few thousand dollars. The parish is poor and is asking for your financial help, before the City decides to close this historic building down.
