Le Cordon – A sense of warmth and cosiness

A christmas party haven – A great family spot

By: Sabrina Cipriani

Looking for a new place to eat, a place with reasonable affordable prices, check out Le Cordon.

When you enter the Restaurant, the first aroma you smell is the fire coming from the wood burning oven.  As you pass the oven you feel a sense of home and cosiness.

Tony the owner is waiting for you, he will personally fire up a delicious pizza for you on his wood burning stove.  He wants to welcome you into his house!

Tony hails from Nafpaktos, Greece; he arrived in Montreal in 1975 and started his career in the restaurant business.  Le Cordon was originally opened in 1967 and Tony bought it 15 years ago.  He has put his heart and soul into renovating the once Brassiere into a modern day family fun restaurant.  The new décor is sheik, white walls with black style captain chairs (my favourite), tasteful hangings on the walls and disco like crystal light fixtures.

When you first walk in, you are amazed by the space, perfect for celebrating granny’s 80th birthday or little Johnny’s baptism.

Not sure where to have your upcoming Christmas party, take your staff to Le Cordon, you won’t be disappointed.  If you need a location for a bigger do, check out the reception hall they have.  Ask them about their party prices.

If you just want a few hours to chill and have a drink, make your way to the bar in the main dining room or take a few steps more, over to the lounge like area.  It is equipped with another bar, comfy black leather banquets and lottery machines.

For those sports fans you have three TV’s to choose from or should I say pretend you are not watching as your girlfriend is talking to you.

When I walked into the women’s bathroom I was taken back to the old style ladies powder room, chandelier looking light fixtures and fancy tiles.

One thing I always look for in a restaurant is cleanliness and I found that here.

As I sat and ate and ate, I looked around the friendly environment and I saw Tony the owner smile at familiar faces, wave good-bye at regulars and chit chat with newcomers!

I had the pleasure of sampling some of Tony’s homemade entrées, main meals and desserts.  I started with the $8 bruschetta; I could taste the lovely combination of spices and cheese.  Then I moved onto a platter of mozzarella sticks, fried raviolis, onion rings and chicken tenders.  On the menu they are sold separately, ranging in price from $8 to $10.  The onion rings were my favorite, not oily at all and a hint of spice that was intriguing.  The fried raviolis were a first for me and the chicken tenders were warm and savory.  All these entrées are served with sauces for dipping.

For the main dishes I had the well known ribs, a half rack sells for $15; they melt in your mouth and served with homemade French fries and coleslaw.   I moved onto the margarita pizza, perfect size for one, thin delicate crust, all pizzas range from $10 to $15.

I sampled their yummy chicken sandwich with roasted red peppers, $13.

I finished the evening off with; a must, Tony’s cheesecake, the best I’ve had. Along with a crème brule, why not I figured I had already blown my calorie count for the day.  Why not go out with a bang!  All worth it!

Nothing is oily; everything is homemade from their appetizers, to the main dishes to desserts.  Everything is made from scratch.

I asked Tony what his sauce for the ribs is, but he said, “I can’t tell you, it’s a secret, not even my family knows.”

Tony and his staff put all their love into preparing their food.  When your child finishes their entire meal, Tony has a surprise for them, he wouldn’t even tell me, and it’s a surprise only for the little ones!

Tony wants to personally invite all of you to his New Year’s Eve Party!!   For the low cost of $50 per adult, $20 per child, you will receive food, dancing; music provided by a DJ, prizes to be won and of course a glass of champagne to toast to 2014!!  Call now and book your friends or family!

Check out their website at www.restobarlecordon.com, there you will see their slogan; “where love is put in everything”, words to live by.

Quick hop in your car and drive on over to Le Cordon, for breakfast(Fri., Sat. &Sun), lunch or supper any day of the week, check the website for hours!   Hope to see you there! Happy Dining!
