The Grand Prix du Canada is coming to town on the 5, 6 and 7 of June at the Gilles Villeneuve track on Île Notre Dame but this is not only a car race event, in fact it is a festive occasion to celebrate the music, the gastronomy, and—certainly very important—the beauty of Montreal in all its possible manifestations.
Of all the additional activities surrounding the Grand Prix itself, the festival that is held on Crescent St.—already a tradition in the downtown area of our city— is certainly the one that attracts most visitors. Among the events one can find on Crescent are the exhibition of racecars and sports cars, kiosks offering all kinds of racecars paraphernalia, and the one most expected by visitors: the free indoor concerts starting at 7 p.m. on the big stage located at the corner of Crescent and De Maisonneuve Blvd. Of course, a number of restaurants and bars in the area are ready to offer the best of their menus as well.
The Crescent St. Festival starts on Thursday, June 4 at noon with an opening ceremony usually with the presence of a couple of drivers. This time it is expected that last year’s winner Jenson Button be there as well as Rubens Barrichello. The rest of the program hasn’t been released yet, at the time the official web site of the Grand Prix listed a number of events as “a sample from previous years” with the understanding that some of these groups will be there again this time. During the afternoon Capueira Bud Rock on Crescent Street North, Official weigh-in for the Budweiser Grand Prix III Boxing Gala, and DJ STICH on the Budweiser stage. Rock groups will be playing on the north stage at 7 p.m. and then at 9 p.m.
