At the Apartment 200 club, Just For Laughs organizers Bruce Hills and Robbie Praw unveiled the line up for its 32nd edition (which runs from July 9-28) , and after finding out who will be performing this year, it certainly lives up to its 2014 slogan that the festival is offering “the biggest names in comedy”.
And like its previous 31 editions, the biggest names will appear on its flagship series of shows, the Videotron Just For Laughs Galas, presented by Air Canada. Comedy legend Don “Mr. Warmth” Rickles returns after 16 years to host two galas (July 23 and 25); it will be bookended by another festival returnee, as superstar comic Russell Peters hosts the final two galas on July 26 and 27; in between are two big names who will be hosting galas for the first time: SNL alumnus Andy Samberg (July 24) and comedian/actor Seth Rogen, whose July 26 gala will benefit his Hilarity For Charity fund, which aids the National Alzheimer Association.
There will also be an impressive roster of solo shows featuring festival favorites Lewis Black, Ron White, Tommy Tiernan, Jim Jeffries, Aziz Ansari, Mike Birbiglia, Jimmy Carr, Marc Maron and Kathleen Madigan. And the popular Club Series will herald the return of the popular Nasty Show hosted by “Pitbull of Comedy” Bobby Slayton, the Date Night Show hosted by Godfrey, the Ethnic Show hosted by Maz Jobrani, and a new addition to the series, the All-Star Show hosted by Dom Irrera.
Although the complete line up for Just For Laughs’ ComedyPRO Conference, which takes place from July 24-26, will be announced at a later date, it was revealed that the entire cast of the hit sitcom “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” will be appearing at the conference, and comedian Bill Burr will be honoured with the festival’s Stand-Up Performer of the Year award.
And to create their own brand of festival buzz at the press conference, comedian James Adomian performed dead-on impersonations of three of the big names who are slated to appear at this year’s festival, Lewis Black, Seth Rogen and Bill Burr.
Just For Laughs plans to reveal even more of the biggest names in comedy for this year’s edition at a later date. For more information, or to purchase your tickets, go to: hahaha.com
