In two short weeks, the Dorval Main Streets business community and the City of Dorval, will be hosting the 35th annual Dorval Soapbox Derby.
This season’s must attend race will take place on Sunday, September 14, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fénelon Boulevard, north of Carson Avenue, will be transformed into a drag strip and organizers are anticipating as many as 50 racers aged 7 to 12 in the two categories. Last year’s top speed as measured by Police radar: 32km/h!!
Come and showcase your most, unique, whacky, decorative helmet creation. The fourth annual “Gerry Cup”, in honor of longtime volunteer and artist Gerry Aubry, will be awarded for the most original helmet that can also be worn during the race. Please note that helmets and closed-toe shoes are mandatory in order to participate in the event.
In celebration of the 35th anniversary of this awesome community event, special activities are in store for racers and non-racers alike: photo and poster exhibitions, games, chair massages and face painting too!
Registration forms are available at local Dorval businesses and in the various municipal buildings. There are a limited number of participants. For more information, please call Dorval Main Streets at 514 633-4210 or Bijouterie Jean-Guy Aubry at 514 631-5119.
As always, the Dorval Main Streets members will be fundraising for a good cause during the Soapbox Derby. All of the money raised through the canteen sales will be donated to deserving local community groups.
