Toots is only about 5 months old now and was just a tiny kitten when Reesa Moretti found her in a back alley in the Plateau area. She was dirty and quite hungry, but seemed to be in good health.
“I was taking a walk around the neighborhood and in this area there are a lot of feral cats. I heard pathetic little meows coming from behind some boxes and went over to check… this poor little thing suddenly jumped out from behind and sat down in front of me. I was smitten,” explained Reesa.
She asked people around the neighborhood and put up a few posters to make sure she wasn’t somebody else’s kitten, but after a few weeks and no replies, she officially became Toots’ forever Mom.
“I had taken her to the vet right away and except for some fleas and needing de-worming pills she was very healthy… and she soon became the funniest and funkiest little thing I ever met.”
Reesa enjoys dancing and listens to a lot of funky music.
“I listen to everything from James Brown to the Psychic Mirrors – and Toots really gets off on it! Whenever I put a few tracks on to dance to, she immediately comes running into the living room and begins rolling around on the floor and running in and out between my feet… I have to be careful not to step on her!”
Toots also has a funky penchant for t-shirts, in feline size of course.
“One of my friends bought her this adorable little t-shirt with ‘I love you’ and a heart on it. I didn’t think she would like having it on her, but I couldn’t have been more wrong! When I first took it off, she kept trying to stick her head back into it.”
She now has a collection of six little t-shirts, of which Reesa lets her pick out.
“She doesn’t wear them all the time of course, but on chillier days I pull them out and put them on the bed… then she walks all over them and, I think, tells me which one she wants to put on by laying down on it and kneading it.”
Toots like to ‘Play that Funky Music’ indeed.
