Italian food is hard to please considering I eat it almost every day. Someone has yet to beat Nonna’s tomato sauce or our family’s homemade sausage, but when I come across an Italian restaurant that tastes just like home and sometimes better, it’s definitely worth a shout. La Verita provides customers just that. Located in the West Island, just across the lot from JukeBox Burgers, this Italian hot spot is chic, welcoming and delicious.
We were greeted as we walked in and seated to a very nice, intimate table near the fireplace on the higher level of the restaurant. Prior to my arrival, I checked the menu online, as I always do, but couldn’t see any dishes. The only information available regarding their menu is that it’s subject to change and their food is prepared with only the freshest ingredients. From burrata cheese entrées to lobster ravioli and a fine selection of meats and fish, the selections didn’t disappoint the eyes. The question was: will it satisfy the stomach too? Indeed it did.
To start, we shared the mozzarella di Bufala – a soft, Italian cheese paired well with tomatoes, basil and olive oil. It was a mountain of flavor! As our mains, we opted for some nice plates of pasta which included a lobster ravioli in a creamy, rosé sauce. The ravioli were generously stuffed with lobster, each bite more satisfying than the next. The second dish was orrechiette (a small shell-like pasta) with shrimp, rapini and prosciutto bits. Both portions were just right – not too big or too small which is usually the case in these luxury restaurants. Instead, we were full and didn’t shy away from devouring the warm bread basket they continuously replenished on our table.
The setting is quiet and welcoming, making it perfect for a date or a dinner amongst friends or family. The main dishes cost between $20.00 to $40.00 so it definitely is a little splurge if you decide to try it out, but worth every penny!
