Pierrefonds-Roxboro Borough Mayor and Member of the Montréal Executive Committee responsible for Procurement, Sports and Recreation, and Communities of diverse origins, Mr. Dimitrios (Jim) Beis is pleased to announce the development of a new synthetic soccer field. Through a partnership with the Lester B. Pearson School Board, this sports infrastructure will be installed on the grounds of Pierrefonds Comprehensive High School.
Nearly 2,000 young people in the borough participate in soccer every year. These players and all the borough soccer associations will be able to play their favorite sport on the new surface starting next summer.
Since the maintenance of a synthetic field is not subject to the weather, the soccer season can start earlier in the spring and finish later in the fall. This will extend soccer activities by at least two months.
“It is by bringing people together, working in partnership with the Lester B. Pearson School Board and listening to our soccer associations in the Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough that we can offer our residents this new sports infrastructure. This new synthetic soccer field is the “kick-off” for many soccer seasons for our youth of today and of tomorrow”, said Mayor Beis.
The borough will invest nearly $3.2 million in this project that will allow it to host major events on its territory. The administration is also awaiting a decision on a federal government infrastructure grant that could be as much as $500,000. This amount would significantly reduce the financial contribution of borough citizens in the implementation of the project.
Work on the field will begin this fall and is expected to be completed before the beginning of summer 2017.
