The popular “Weekends du Monde” presented by Loto-Québec event is back at Parc Jean-Drapeau on July 4-5 and 11-12. And, on July 5th, 2015, there will be Dominican flags waving all over the park, as we celebrate the 5th annual Dominican Festival, with a crowd between 15,000 and 25,000 people!

Former Olympic Boxing Champion, Sandy Mambo, is now taking on a whole new challenge, this time, using his vocal talents to perform in a band. This summer, as part of the “Festival Dominicain de Montreal”, Sandy and his Latin band will perform a duo with Audrey Grenier, composer and performer. Mostly known as a local TV and radio personality, Audrey unleashed her vocal talents on TVA’s “La Voix”, when she competed for a spot on their TV show – known as “The Voice” in the USA.

The Sandy and Audrey duo perform songs in both French and Spanish, with their live band. Every year, the festival attracts Montrealers from all ethnicities, waving the Dominican flag in support of the Latin American country’s celebration.

“When I see people in the audience that are clearly not from Latin-America but still wave both the Dominican and Canadian flags while we perform music on stage, it fills my heart with gratitude and warmth. I am proud to see that Montreal is so welcoming when it comes to cultural events that brings together our people, and our traditions”, shared Jose Reyes Kilimppi, event producer at Fondación Quisqueya Festival, bringing the festival to life every year.

This year’s event promises to be colorful and fun for people of all ages, as there will be installations for kids, food kiosks with catering from various Latin countries and performances of merengue and bachata from day to night. For those who have travelled to Dominican Republic, you must be familiar with the rhythms of their music and sensuality of their dances.

Their motto: “Republica Dominicana, donde vive la musica bachata y merengue”.

Translation: “Dominican Republic. Where the bachata and merengue music lives”.

Sandy and Audrey will perform on July 5th at 7h30pm, at the festival’s closing show, Parc Jean-Drapeau.
