West Island Cancer Wellness Centre Golf Tournament breaks records!
The West Island Cancer Wellness Centre (WICWC) Annual Golf Tournament, held at the Saint-Raphaël Golf Club last month, broke its own record by raising more than $300,000. The funds will go directly to continuing to offer free programs that address the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of anyone living with cancer at no charge.
“Since its creation in 2009, the tournament has raised more funds with each new edition. This year’s result represents a 27% increase over last year,” said Michael Boychuk, Tournament Co-Chair. “I am very proud of the work done by the Organizing Committee to support the West Island Cancer Wellness Centre by making the event such a phenomenal success.”
“The result of the tournament is a testament to how corporations and individuals can come together to support an important cause like the West Island Cancer Wellness Centre. I am personally very touched by their commitment to the Centre and, in turn, to the people living with cancer that it helps,” added Paul Stinis, Tournament Co-Chair.
The other members of the Organizing Committee were: George Alexopoulos (Belden Inc.), Jay Deakin (Deakin Realty), Stacey Hoirch (BCE/Bell), David Bertrand (RBC Dominion Securities), Matthew Shannon (Quartexx Management), Leslie Machan Jr. (Pension Planning Centre and Robert Collette (Carstar Pierrefonds).
Close to 200 golfers participated in the tournament starting with brunch which was followed by 18 holes of golf with food, drink and contests at several holes. The day was capped off with cocktails and dinner featuring a silent & live auction as well as a raffle. Radio & television personality Orla Johannes was the emcee.

ABOUT THE WEST ISLAND CANCER WELLNESS CENTRE
The West Island Cancer Wellness Centre (WICWC) is a registered charity dedicated to offering compassionate care and support to anyone experiencing cancer – either having it themselves or supporting someone with cancer. It was founded in response to the demand for a whole-person integrated approach to wellness that focuses on improving the health and well-being of people living with cancer by addressing their emotional, physical and spiritual needs. All its programs and services are free of charge and are created to fulfill the need for Psychosocial cancer care and to complement traditional medical practices.
Through the wellness programs, participants receive personal support, gain coping mechanisms, discover additional alternatives, and become better educated about their specific illness. They are guided to gain more control of their lives, find strength, reduce feelings of isolation, and continue to foster hope, regardless of the stage of their disease.
