Montreal first marijuana store – As the countdown begins towards October 17th 2018, when Canadians will be able to legally fill their pipes or roll ‘joints’ with marijuana – the SQDC (Societe quebecoise du cannabis) is starting to roll out their stores.
On Thursday July 19th, the SQDC announced the signing of a lease for the first marijuana store in Montreal. It will be located in the Rosemont/La-Petite-Patrie borough at Plaza St. Hubert between St. Zotique and Belanger Streets – and is scheduled to open in time for the big day.
Following Quebec’s cannabis law and guidelines, stores in Montreal have to be at least 150 metres away from any schools or daycare centres (regions outside Montreal are allowed 250 metres). The store at Plaza St. Hubert will be 260 metres away, even further than the law stipulates.
According to the SQDC, they plan to open 20 cannabis stores in the province. Montreal is slated to have three other stores open in October, located somewhere in the southwest, east end and downtown areas of the island – and another two more opened in the city by the end of the fall season.
The stores will be open seven days a week from 10:00am to 10:00pm – and if you happen to be looking for work or are interested, they have started recruiting employees and are still looking to hire managers, assistant mangers and ‘consultants’.
