Cyberthreats have been a problem for many big corporations and governments for many, however, now this cybersecurity threat has expanded to small businesses. In short, all businesses are vulnerable to cyberthreat. Cyber attacks can put the money of the companies, data and further, IT equipment at the risk. The risk of such cyber attacks can create vulnerability for the client list, credit card information, bank details, product designs, manufacturing processes and expansion plans. Cyber attacks can put not only the security of your company at risk but also the information of the clients.

Cyberattacks on businesses can create huge disruptions for businesses. Whether you are running a big business like TCS or a small business, cybersecurity can hamper the progress of the business at many levels. Cyberattacks can result in a financial loss that comes from compromises with the banking information and high costs and further, it can damage the reputation of both the company. Common cyber-attacks include malware, viruses, ransomware and phishing.

How To Keep Your Business Safe From Cybersecurity Threats?

A few of the ways through which cybersecurity threats can be avoided are explained below.

1. Train your employees

Employees need to be trained properly and should be taught how to avoid data breaches. Emails can be used for phishing attacks and therefore, the employees need to be trained properly on how to stay safe from phishing attacks which can take place through emails. The employees should be trained to spot phishing emails, good browsing practices, and avoidance of suspicious downloads. In addition to that, the employees should also be encouraged to create strong passwords and maintain good cyber hygiene.

2. Monitor and target

It is important for the company to monitor for any abnormal behavior in the security of the company. The breadcrumbs can be detected for the same to avoid the attack. The security team of the company should ensure that all the services are monitored from time to time. One can stay alert while monitoring by always expecting a breach.

3. Create a backup of the data

In order to avoid data loss, create a backup of the data. Critical data like payment details and customer details need to be preserved and such information is not only vital for big businesses like Pakistan Post but also small businesses too. For carrying out a backup, identify the data that needs a backup. The backup can be carried on the cloud. It is important to ensure that the platform on which the backups are created are safe and provide a good level of security.

4. Have an antivirus software

To protect the computers of the company, they should be equipped with antivirus software and antispyware. Simply having such software, it should also be ensured that they are updated regularly to protect the computer from newer levels of threats. To avoid manual updates which can result in postponement due to a variety of reasons, opt for automatic updates.

5. Secure the network

Sometimes, the threat not only lies on the internet but in the internet connection itself. Ensure that the Wi-Fi network that you are using for business is both secure and hidden. This can be done with the help of encrypted information and a firewall. Further, the router should be password protected. It is recommended to hide the Wi-Fi network to protect it from spying eyes.

6. Use a strong password

Everyone in the company should be encouraged to use a strong password. A strong password should comprise of ten characters or more, it should further consist of an uppercase letter, lowercase letter, number and special character. In addition to having a strong password, it is also recommended to employ multi-factor authentication which provides an additional layer of security.

To ensure that the companies are safe from cyberattacks, a risk assessment should be carried on from time to time. By evaluating potential risks, the threats can be identified and analyzed and this can be helpful in formulating a plan for identifying the threats and staying safe from them. The most important element for staying safe from cyberattacks, protecting the Wi-Fi connection, a good antivirus update and Wi-Fi router protection is important. Further, there should always be a plan for bouncing back if, by any chance, a security loophole occurs to keep the business as safe as possible.
